The Miami Heat have re-signed 27-year old PF/C Joel Anthony to a 5-year, $18 million dollar deal. Anthony played in 80 games (16 starts) last season for the Heat and he averaged 16.5 minutes, 2.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. He has now played in 169 games (45 starts) in his three years with the Heat and he has averaged 17.0 minutes, 2.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. This was a good move for the Heat as Anthony will provide them with rebounding and defense near the basket.

LeBron James convinced 35-year old center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to come to Miami and play for the Heat. He has signed a 2-year, $2.8 million dollar contract to chase a ring in Miami. Ilgauskas played in 64 games (6 starts) for the Cavaliers last season and he averaged 20.9 minutes, 7.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has now played in 771 games (673 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 28.3 minutes, 13.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game. It’s very possible that big Z could be the starting center for the Heat which would allow Chris Bosh to stay at power forward. This was a outstanding signing for the Heat.

Contract details are not available yet but Udonis Haslem has rejected bigger offers (from Dallas and Denver) to return to the Heat. All Haslem does is bring his hard hat to work everyday for the Heat. He rebounds, plays defense and once in a while gets to score some points. He played in 78 games (0 starts) for the Heat last season and he averaged 27.9 minutes, 9.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Haslem has now played in 517 games (386 starts) for the Heat in which he has averaged 30.9 minutes, 10.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Haslem is #2 all-time in Heat history in games played (517), #3 in rebounds (4,177), #9 in steals (307) and #8 in points (5,175). Getting Haslem back is big news for the Heat.

UPDATE: Haslem’s contract is a 5-year deal worth $20 million bucks.

Mike Miller is likely joining the Big Three for the Miami Heat

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Heat News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 1:17 pm

30-year old SG/SF Mike Miller is waiting for Prince James, D-Wade and Chris Bosh to sign their deals before he inks his deal. Miller played in 54 games (50 starts) for the Wizards last season and he averaged 33.4 minutes, 10.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He shot a stunning 48% from the floor from three point range last season. Miller has now played in 692 games (528 starts) in his 10 years in the NBA and he has averaged 32.4 minutes, 13.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Miller should fit right in on the Heat as he is a unselfish player who doesn’t need the ball to help his team win.

UPDATE: (7/15/2010) - Miller has signed his new deal to join the Heat. Details of the contract have not been released yet.

The Miami Heat trade Michael Beasley to the Timberwolves

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Heat News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 12:03 am

The Heat have traded 21-year old forward Michael Beasley to the Timberwolves for a 2nd round pick in 2011, 2014 and cash considerations. The two teams will exchange first round picks down the road. Beasley played in 78 games (all starts) for the Heat last season and he averaged 29.8 minutes, 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game. In his two years with the Heat, Beasley played in 159 games (97 starts) in which he averaged 27.3 minutes, 14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. This was essentially a straight salary dump for the Heat to open up more cash for the Big Three.
