Alonzo Mourning stepping up for Heat

Blogged under Steppin Up, Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 18 December 2006 at 7:05 pm

The Heat probably thought they were in deep doo-doo when Shaq went down early in the season.  But Alonzo Mourning has stepped in and done a good job, especially on defense.  The soon to be 36 year old center almost died in 2003 due to a bad kidney.  He was determined to make it back to the NBA and win a championship…and last season he got his ring.  Now it’s his job to help keep the Heat afloat until the return of the Diesel.  Zo is averaging 9.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game so far this season.  Zo is throwing down 57.4% of his shots from the floor, but he needs to improve from the charity stripe where he’s only hitting 59%.

Dwyane Wade leads Heat to 98-90 victory over the Grizzlies

Blogged under Injuries by Nothing but Net on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 2:38 am

The Heat shot 50.6% from the floor and outrebounded the Grizzlies 45-30 on their way to a victory last night.  Dwyane Wade had an awesome game as he scored 41 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 7 assists and stole the ball 5 times.  Jason Kapono added 13 points off the bench.  Alonzo Mourning had a solid game with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.  Dorell Wright was a “Windex Man” as he scored 10 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

The Heat improved to 10-13 on the season with this win.

Heat falls 106-95 to Wizards

Blogged under Injuries by Nothing but Net on Saturday 16 December 2006 at 10:52 am

The Wizards jumped the Heat in the first quarter and outscored them 40-17 and that was too hard for them to overcome.  James Posey had a great game off the bench and led the Heat with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.  He also hit 7 of 11 from three-point range.  Alonzo Mourning played hard the whole game and scored 17 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.  Antoine Walker added 12 points and 4 rebounds.

The Heat desperately need to get healthy before it’s too late!  The Heat fell to 9-13 with this loss.

Dwyane Wade was out because of dental surgery and the Heat couldn’t really get the offense going as they shot 39.8% from the floor.  Alonzo Mourning led the way with 19 points and 5 rebounds.  Udonis Haslem was tough around the basket with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Jason Kapono scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.  Dorell Wright added 10 points and 6 rebounds.  Rookie Robert Hite added 11 points off the bench.

The Heat fell to 9-12 with this loss.

Rookies not showing much

Blogged under Rookie Reports, Injuries by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 13 December 2006 at 12:01 am

The Heat is a veteran team that doesn’t have much playing time available to rookies.  Chris Quinn has played in 8 games and has averaged 5.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game so far this season.  He’s also shooting like the basket has a lid on it as he has only made 29.4% of his shots from the floor.

Robert Hite, a former Miami Hurricane, has played in 5 games and has averaged 8.9 minutes, 2.8 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game so far this season.  He also is shooting alot of bricks as he is only hitting 29.4% of his shots from the floor.
